Getting Started with Your Crochet Kit
Welcome to your Jumbo Mouse Kicker Crochet Tutorial! Before we begin crocheting, let’s open your kit, review the included materials, and prepare your workspace.
Your kit includes:
• Jumbo yarn
• Crochet hook
• Stitch marker
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Raw wool stuffing
• Catnip and silvervine blend
• Printed crochet pattern
Once you have everything ready, practice holding your crochet hook like a pencil and use your opposite hand to guide the yarn. Keep your grip relaxed and arrange your supplies somewhere comfortable and well-lit.
When you’re ready, continue to the next section to begin crocheting your mouse.
Beginning the Mouse: Rounds 1–3
In this section, we’ll create a magic ring and begin shaping the mouse.
Round 1: Create a magic ring, chain one, and work six single crochet stitches into the center. Pull the yarn tail to close the ring. (6 stitches)
Round 2: Work two single crochet stitches into each stitch around. (12 stitches)
Round 3: Work one single crochet, followed by an increase. Repeat this pattern six times. (12 stitches)
Place your stitch marker in the first stitch of each round and move it up as you continue working.
Shaping the Body: Rounds 4–8
In this section, we’ll shape and lengthen the body of the mouse.
Round 4: Work one single crochet in each of the next three stitches, followed by an increase in the next stitch. Repeat this sequence three times. Slip stitch into the first single crochet to join, then chain one. (15 stitches)
Rounds 5–8: Work one single crochet in each stitch around. Slip stitch into the first single crochet to join, then chain one before beginning the next round. Repeat until you have completed four rounds containing 15 single crochet stitches each.
Remember: Move your stitch marker to the first single crochet at the beginning of every new round.
Shaping the Nose & Stuffing: Round 9
In this section, we’ll begin narrowing the mouse’s nose and pause to add the stuffing and catnip blend.
Round 9: Work one single crochet in each of the next three stitches, followed by a decrease over the next two stitches. Repeat this sequence three times. Slip stitch into the first single crochet to join. (12 stitches)
Pause to Stuff: Gently fill and shape the mouse using the included wool stuffing.
For a stronger scent, open the sachet and empty the catnip and silvervine blend directly into the mouse.
For a cleaner option, place the entire unopened sachet inside. Position it near the center and surround it with wool stuffing.
Finish shaping the body, then chain one to continue.
Finishing and Closing the Nose: Rounds 10–12
In this section, we’ll continue decreasing to finish shaping and close the mouse’s nose.
Round 10: Work one single crochet in each of the next two stitches, followed by a decrease over the next two stitches. Repeat this sequence three times. Slip stitch into the first single crochet to join, then chain one. (9 stitches)
Round 11: Work one single crochet in the next stitch, followed by a decrease over the next two stitches. Repeat this sequence three times. Slip stitch into the first single crochet to join, then chain one. (6 stitches)
Round 12: Decrease over the next two stitches. Repeat two more times. (3 stitches)
Closing the Nose: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and fasten off. Thread the tail through the darning needle, sew through the remaining three stitches, and gently pull to close the opening.
Secure the yarn and hide the remaining tail inside the mouse.
Making and Attaching the Tail & Ears
In this section, we’ll make the tail and ears before attaching them to the mouse.
Tail: Create a slip knot and chain 14. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing, then fasten off. Use the darning needle to sew the tail securely to the original magic-ring end of the mouse. Secure the yarn and hide the remaining end inside the body.
Ears—Make Two: Create a magic ring and chain one. Work four single crochet stitches inside the ring, then pull the starting yarn tail to close it tightly. Cut the working yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing, and fasten off. Tie the starting tail and fasten-off tail together in a secure knot. Repeat these steps to create the second ear.
Position both ears near the mouse’s nose. Use the longer yarn tails and darning needle to sew them securely to the body. Secure the yarn and hide the remaining ends inside the mouse.
